Meet Greta: A Journey of Love

My name is Barbara Nelson, and I’m reaching out to you with both a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit.

Just over a year ago, I lost my beloved dog, Greta, under heartbreaking and unexpected circumstances. Greta wasn’t just a pet—she was my soul companion, my heart dog. Closer to me than most people ever could be, she carried a presence and warmth that touched everyone she met.

Greta served as a therapy dog with Dogs on Duty, bringing comfort to nursing home residents, school children, and women in shelters. Her spirit was magnetic—gentle, intuitive, and deeply compassionate. I’ve grieved her loss tremendously, and I continue to do so. In many ways, I felt she didn’t receive the level of dignity, respect, and closure that a life so full of service and love so deeply deserved.

Out of this pain, however, something beautiful began to take shape. I’ve decided to channel my grief into purpose.
